The Dunedin Tongan Community are holding a Tongan Youth fono to address bullying amongst Youth.
The fono is for High school students and their parents. Bringing our youth together to acknowledge the issue and to take ownership of it by coming up with ideas to address it as a community.
The aim is for students and parents to have a shared understanding of what bullying looks like (physical, verbal, social bullying and cyberbullying) and how we can prevent it and respond consistently as a community in partnership with schools to have an effective solution.
We understand that each high school will have their own policies and strategies on how they deal with bullying. This is an effort to bring to light how bullying has grown over the years and the severity and impact it has on the victim. This is a platform for our community to have open and safe discussions around a topic that is usually not discussed openly.
