An incredible few days adventuring in Aoraki with a remarkable group of Year 10 students.
Our Year 10 Aoraki Adventure camp was nothing short of incredible! We began our journey on Monday at Mount Cook; the Hooker Valley Track guided us through a breathtaking 10-km hike, leading to the glacial lake at the base of Mount Cook. Along the way, we crossed swing bridges and soaked in the scenery.
Tuesday was an action-packed and fun-filled day in Tekapo! We began with a paddleboarding and kayaking adventure around the lake. After lunch by the lake, we headed to the hot pools to relax and enjoy a few rounds of mini-golf. We finished the day with some delicious fish and chips from the local 'Better Batter' food truck while soaking in the splendid views of Lake Tekapo.
On Wednesday, we embraced a challenge: conquering the 2,200 steps at Sealy Tarns. The rewarding panoramic views of Mount Cook and Hooker Valley from this vantage point were unparalleled. We finished Wednesday with a midnight excursion at a private stargazing observatory. In the biggest Dark Sky Reserve in the Southern Hemisphere, we saw Jupiter, Saturn, and the moon along with several sparkling stars.
Throughout the week, the students were outstanding. They rose to meet each challenge and approached everything with a brilliant attitude. It was awesome to see how they looked after each other and bonded over the week.
A massive thank you to everyone that was involved and helped to make this week a memorable one!
