Kavanagh Debating

Over the weekend Kavanagh’s Debating club went to their annual regional debating competition to compete against schools from all over Otago and Southland. The competition involves five debates over the course of the weekend and provides the chance to get great feedback from university-level debaters to improve their skills.
This year, for the first time, Kavanagh put forward three teams. Kavanagh-1 was Anna Roberts, Blake Chalmers and Ollie Meikle. Kavanagh-2 was Sam Meikle, Rosa Latton and Elizabeth Audas. Kavanagh-3 was Annalise-Jade Keable, Skyla Bell, and Tobias Brennan. All teams did a good job and have improved their skills hugely.
Kavanagh 1 did especially well, they were only one win away from making it into the semifinals, which is the closest a Kavanagh team has been in three years since competing. Anna also received a highly commended speaker award and a place on the "Gold Squad" to do extra training.
It was a great weekend for everyone involved and everyone is excited to use their new skills in the local competition. Great job Kavanagh!
