NCEA Level 3 with Achievement Standards

Entry Requirement

It is desirable that students achieve in the External Standards in the following courses:

L1 Art     or    L2 Art Practical    or   L2 Art Photography

This is approached from an Art perspective and is not intended as a hobby pursuit. As there are significant costs related to this course, a separate letter of agreement must be signed by parents/caregivers before entry to the course is allowed. These letters are available from the Art department or school office.

Cost

$120 plus students need to purchase their own paper and film through the bursar or pay for digital processing. 

The cost for printing and paper varies according to the number of prints required. 

Some students choose to get their high quality images printed commercially at their own expense.

Internals

AS 91447 - Use drawing to demonstrate understanding of conventions appropriate to photography - 4 credits

AS 91452 - Systematically clarify ideas using drawing informed by established photography practice - 4 credits

Externals

Externally assessed work is presented as a 3-panel portfolio of work and is submitted towards the end of the year

AS 91457 - Produce a systematic body of work that integrates conventions and regenerates ideas within photography practice - 14 credits

 

Where Does It Lead

A greater understanding of the procedures and practices which underlie the making of Art.

Entry into schools of Fine Arts, University courses and other tertiary courses such as Architecture, Design and Photography.

For students wishing to apply for entry into a University school of Art, at least one of the following Art subjects is required:

Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking or Sculpture
